“Words don’t work that way. Once heard, they can’t ever be taken back. All they can do is echo.”
As I was reading this book, it hit me that I haven’t been seeing movies but there about Prince’s and such in this light. But then I remembered Royals is still going strong three seasons in so I guess the novelty hasn’t worn off yet. I used to dream of living in a country like Sweden or Luxembourg where the royal family was not in the limelight like the British one and find myself a princess one day. Laughable to be honest when I look back now. I would hate such a life.
Royally Screwed felt like a walk down memory lane. It was a visit to those childhood dreams of love and royalty. Hours before falling asleep spent on drawing up the perfect conditions that would lead up to my prince finding me. That was all before the world jilted me and made me be cautious of love and everything that comes with it. But reading this book, the giddiness I used to have was still present so I guess a part of me still entertains that idea. Too bad Carl-Philip is married with a kid now. Hahaha.
Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka His Royal Hotness, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant; hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.
Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.
Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.
Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.
There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces, and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately, the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.
But to Olivia, Nicholas is worth it.
Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is and, more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.
Meet Prince Nichols and Olivia Hammond. Prince Nichols is not the ordinary bad boy prince, he is the kind that comes to term with the expectations of his position and tries his best to live by them. So when he is given an ultimatum to find a wife, he agrees to it even when he does not like the idea of it all. But duty is duty and if it will save the monarchy, he will do it. The only catch is that the chosen one must be from a line that is approved by the palace which proves to be something he would rather not live through.
“I was known before I was born and my name will be blazoned in history long after I’m dust in the ground. Infamy is temporary, celebrity is fleeting, but royalty…royalty is forever.”
Olivia Hammond is struggling back home with her family business. They are in debt and everything feels like its falling apart. But when the two of them cross paths, they find themselves intrigued by each other. They make a deal about their relationship, put a time limit to it but that could not stop them from falling in love. But the rules were the rules, no one outside of the list could make it into the royal family. It became even clearer as their time was about to run out that no one was going to barge on it even the prince when he made a request that pissed her off.
“Yes, I’m a fucking arsehole and a bastard, too. But I can’t…bear it. The thought of you being an ocean away. The thought of never seeing you, never touching you again.”
But as all love stories go, there was a happy ending. This is book one in a series but each book can be read as a standalone. Emma Chase is famous for her quirky books and this was no different with many moments of laughter. I’d recommend it to those who love the cheesy Lifetime/Hallmark movies.
