“You know why it didn’t work out with him?”
“Because God made you for me.”

I loved this book so much. It was a good read that I got to enjoy over a few days. I wish I could have read through it once but life got into the way. The book picks up on Chelsea’s life a year after her break up. She was a character we got to meet in Stepbrother Dearest.

“As long as my heart is beating, it will only beat for you.”

Meet Damien, Chelsea’s next door neighbor who is an artist and an all-round hot guy. Their first interaction doesn’t go too well but as time goes by they can stand each other. He ends up giving her solid advice that helps her get out of the funk she is in after her break up. But the advice was given because of Damien eavesdropping on her conversations and getting information about her that she would not have offered up voluntarily.

Despite all that, they become great friends and spend a lot of time together. Even though they are both very attracted to each other, Damien keeps Chelsea at a distance not willing to let anything happen between them regardless of the attraction that’s so evident. Chelsea is not having it. She does not understand why he won’t just let it be.

“You can’t have it both ways, Damien. You can’t look at me the way you do … You can’t keep me close and treat me as if I’m a huge part of your life and expect me not to get attached to you. It’s unnatural and unhealthy, and whether it’s your intention or not, you’re hurting me.”

But Damien has his personal reasons and he makes it clear that they can only be friends. At this point I was finding it had to keep reading the book because I just couldn’t get why he was being an idiot about it all. But curiosity got the better of me and I kept on reading. I’m nosy by nature and I have to know what happens in the end.

“Sometimes, the best things are right under your nose all along.”

The story is a beautiful friends to lovers story with a lot of funny moments and some that will make you want to cry. The author delivered something I did not expect. I thought it would be a quirky haters to lovers story but it was more than that. I am definitely going to pick up the next standalone in this series (if there will be one). Hopefully one on Tyler and Jade.

“You only get one true love, one soulmate. Not everyone is lucky enough to find that person in a lifetime.”

I was going to give it four stars but I feel like the story surprised me or rather the entire series surprised me to the point I bumped this up to five stars. It didn’t make me cry but it left me with a big smile on my face. I loved it.

“He changed the story.”
